Occupational therapy helps people build or regain skills for daily living so they can be independent and succeed at work, school, and in their home and social lives. Occupational therapy can help people with needs such as autism, injuries and behavioral health challenges build or regain a wide range of skills.
What does an Occupational Therapist do?
Occupational therapists can help people build physical, behavioral, cognitive, sensory and other skills. The therapists at Futures assess children’s needs and goals and create a plan of support just for them. Depending on each child’s needs, we can help them build or regain skills such as:
Gross and fine motor skills for daily living activities such as dressing, bathing, self-feeding and writing.
Strength, coordination, and balance.
Hand-eye coordination skills such as playing a video game, music, or writing down text.
Learning to use equipment such as hearing or mobility aids that help the child be independent.
Learning to better regulate their emotions so they can handle stress and conflict.
Social skills to help children make friends and do well in school.
Speech Therapy
Futures offers individual therapy sessions and assessments for children with speech and language challenges. Sessions include fun activities overseen by a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist to build skills in areas including:
Understanding and use of language
Social skills
Play skills
Communication and articulation
Early Childhood ABA Program
Futures offers a full time (8:30-2:30)ABA-based program that helps children learn social, communication, and appropriate play skills through cooperative learning. A summer program is also available. The program offers a small group size with support from specially trained staff including:

After School Programs
Our after school programs help youth develop the social and life skills they need to grow and live their best lives.
Social Skills Our social skills program uses ABA therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy in a small-group format.
Life Skills Our life skills program helps children and young adults build skills they need to live and work independently. The program offers skill building and opportunities in many areas including finding new interests, improving communication and social skills, and learning safety skills.
What Is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is an approach to understanding a child’s behavior and learning are affected by their environment. ABA therapy is tailored to each person’s unique needs and used in the environment that is best for them, such as home or school. It has been used for decades to help children with autism and other needs. ABA therapy can help children decrease problem behaviors and improve skills in many areas of development, including:
