Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy helps people build or regain skills for daily living so they can be independent and succeed at work, school, and in their home and social lives. Occupational therapy can help people with needs such as autism, injuries and behavioral health challenges build or regain a wide range of skills.

What does an Occupational Therapist do?

Occupational therapists can help people build physical, behavioral, cognitive, sensory and other skills. The therapists at Futures assess children’s needs and goals and create a plan of support just for them. Depending on each child’s needs, we can help them build or regain skills such as:

  • Gross and fine motor skills for daily living activities such as dressing, bathing, self-feeding and writing.
  • Strength, coordination, and balance.
  • Hand-eye coordination skills such as playing a video game, music, or writing down text.
  • Learning to use equipment such as hearing or mobility aids that help the child be independent.
  • Learning to better regulate their emotions so they can handle stress and conflict.
  • Social skills to help children make friends and do well in school.
